Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity that adds value to and improves the operations of a company. Internal audit helps a company achieve its goals by assessing and improving the efficacy of risk management, control, and governance procedures using a methodical, precise, and disciplined methodology.
Internal auditing is a service provided by an internal auditor to suit the information management needs of a company. It is an impartial appraisal activity conducted within a company for the purpose of reviewing operations as a service to the company.
The role of the Internal Auditor is to give independent assurance to management that the organization’s internal controls, risk management measures, and governance are all functioning properly. Supervising, reviewing, researching, and analysing risks and controls; checking and guaranteeing information and compliance with policies, procedures, and laws are all functions of internal auditors. The Senior Management’s goals and objectives will be evaluated by the Internal Auditor. If the auditor finds that the company is falling short of its stated goals, he or she will uncover process flaws and make improvements to close them.
Internal auditing’s goal is to assess and enhance the governance, risk management, and control processes. Internal auditing’s overall goal is to help all members of management discharge their duties. Also, to assist them with objective analysis, recommendations, and pertinent comments pertaining to any part of business activity in which they might be of use to management.
